Trying to implement place-based pedagogy into your teaching practice but feeling a bit isolated? Come meet a group of likeminded educators who are looking to collaborate to improve their practice together. We will start off with an open discussion aimed at exploring place-based learning and how it can improve outcomes for kids. We will then explore how we can infuse a place conscious lens into our teaching practice. Participants are encouraged to bring lesson plans or unit plans that we can help each other spruce up by adding place conscious content and activities that are directly tied to curricular outcome. The ultimate goal of the session will be to link participants into a group where they feel that they have resources and a network of colleagues who can help each other incorporate place-based pedagogical approaches in their classrooms and communities.

The session features an interactive opportunity for you to be in your students’ shoes to explore and engage with our free digital and hands-on resources. We'll start with a brief overview of the project and its connections to the mathematics and science curricula and industry. You will then spend the majority of the session interacting with the activities and resources that can be immediately implemented into your practice. We will seek your feedback on classroom application and potential resources. You’ll leave better equipped to answer the question of “Why do I need to learn this?” by connecting mathematics and science concepts to students’ everyday lives.

Participants will learn why Bruce Perry's Neurosequential Model, that focuses on the neurobiological impacts of chronic stress and trauma, has been teamed together with the Collaborative Problem Solving Model (Dr. Stuart Ablon, Thinkkids.org) to explore key factors of effective supports and strategies to help individuals who experience social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. This comprehensive approach seeks to change the traditional paradigm of how challenging behaviors are understood and what to do about them. The training is designed to provide staff with an overview of some of the most important aspects of these models that can help guide interventions that help build resiliency, coping and skill development, whether you're an expert in CPS, or brand new to the model. *Must attend all 3 sessions*
